Where a Calgary claim is actually heard

Foreclosure actions for a Calgary property go through the Calgary Courts Centre at 601 5 St SW, part of the Court of King's Bench. Title work runs separately, through Land Titles South, also in Calgary. Look at the front page of what you were served: it will name a judicial centre and a response deadline. Those two details matter more than anything else on the document in your first week.

The Court Assistance Program runs free, walk-in, thirty-minute consultations with a volunteer lawyer at the Courts Centre itself — the same building your file is filed in. Calgary Legal Guidance also runs free evening clinics Monday to Thursday (403-234-9266). Neither of those requires an appointment months out, and both exist specifically for people in your position.

What it does not mean

It does not mean you must leave the property, and it does not mean a sale happens next week. Possession sits at the far end of a foreclosure, not the start. A clock, and legal costs that are generally added to what you owe as the file proceeds. That is the practical argument for acting in week one rather than month three — not panic, just arithmetic. Get your response deadline confirmed, get the document in front of a lawyer, and get a written payout figure from your lender so you know the real number you are working against.
